Rev. Charles Landreth, Interim Minister

Charlie Landreth became the Interim Pastor at Rumple Memorial on September 1, 2007.  Ministry began for Charlie  in the spring of 1956 when his mother took him to see the movie A Man Called Peter. Charlie comments, “This planted in my consciousness the notion that maybe I should follow and become a Presbyterian minister, and with God’s help, I did.”  Upon graduation from Rhodes College in Memphis, Charlie continued his education at Columbia Theological Seminary, where he was graduated in 1966. He served as pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Monticello, Florida, and then became the associate minister at First Presbyterian Church of Tallahassee where his focus was both on community and campus ministry. Beginning in 1972 Charlie served for twenty years as an administrator in Florida’s public mental health system in varied capacities. “As a result of these opportunities I gained a deep sensitivity for persons suffering from mental illness and for those who provide care for them,” comments Charlie.

Charlie re-entered parish ministry in 1993 and served as pastor of Middleburg Presbyterian Church in Florida and First Presbyterian Church of Jonesboro, Georgia, from which he retired in 2005. Since retirement Charlie has completed service as interim pastor at the Emory and Decatur Presbyterian churches in Atlanta. He intends to engage in interim ministry for several years to come. Charlie is the father of three children: Charlie, Jr., Debra (deceased), and Greg; and he enjoys two lively grandchildren Noah (12), and Celia (10).
