Dave began his career as a high school Band/Choral Director, finishing 28 years of teaching in 2014. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from East Carolina University and a Master of Science in Music Education from the University of Illinois, Champaign/Urbana. He recently completed (2017) a Doctor of Worship Studies (DWS) from the Robert Webber Institute of Worship Studies (IWS) in Jacksonville, Florida. He has held music ministry positions for the past 23 years in Baptist (CBF) and Presbyterian (PCUSA) churches in Elkin and Blowing Rock, NC. David is a composer of choral anthems and hymns, published by Mark Foster Music, a division of the Hal Leonard Publications and World Library Publications (WLP). He is also a member of the Presbyterian Association of Musicians (PAM) and the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP). David is married to Jamie (33 years), a recently retired elementary school librarian. They have two adult children. Brittany (Darst, 28) teaches Choral Music at Clemmons Middle School and is the Director of Music Ministries at Clemmons Presbyterian Church, and lives with her husband Dan in Winston-Salem. Kenton (23) is a recent graduate of Appalachian State University (2018) and is creating a podcast startup that works with university faculty to highlight their background, research, and publications. Kenton resides in Boone, NC. David and Jamie have two “Grandpuppies,” (Brittany & Dan) “Missy” and “Chip” who succeed in keeping everyone entertained.

What he likes most about winter in the high country?
Driving in the snow. Mom never let me do that when I was a teenager. Even now she “suggests” I should stay home. Sorry Mom!

Favorite candy?
My favorite candy is Mounds.
